The two partners each prick one finger, and place the drop of blood on the others' lips. The life-witch then is bound to Support the husband for five years, providing him with vitality and strength. Most of the time, the life-witches only marry elderly men, giving them a last gift of five more years in return for becoming heirs to the males' estates.
