Telkadis Hiding Tree Spider
native to the taku forests of Telkadis, this unusual predatory insect made its home deep inside the wood of the taku. Outwardly, the trees appeared healthy, but inside the tree spiders had carved out their own nest. The females of the species used powerful claws and pincers to dig through the taku to lay their eggs, and then the males followed them in to fertilize them. While in the process of fertilization, the male tree spider emitted a kind of humming sound, which was the only indication that a specific taku tree was infected with spiders. These tree spiders ambushed rodents, such as the volete, when they got too close to the taku tree, injecting the rodents with a potent venom that killed the volete and allowed the spiders to feed on the carcass. These spiders were a nuisance to the loggers and foresters of Telkadis, who would cut down a seemingly healthy tree only to discover a nest of stinging insects.
