this theoretically simple maneuver was devised by Adar Tallon. Despite its simplicity, it required split-second reactions and uncanny reflexes from two fighter pilots, and was especially dangerous to execute. The two pilots flew close to each other, approaching a capital ship. They needed to be close enough to register on the capital ship's targetting computers as a single target. At very close range, the two fighters split apart. One continued on its strafing run, while the other drew fire from the capital ship's weapons and away from the first ship. The idea was that the ship on the strafing run had about five seconds of clear sailing until the capital ship's targetting computer could detect it as a second target. When executed correctly, this allowed a small fighter to score large damage to the capital ship. The Tallon Split was used with surprising results by Alliance starfighters, during their evacuation from the planet Hoth.
