Tailring
native to the planet Socorro, this desert-dwelling reptile resembled a small, winged dragon. Also known as sand dragons, tailrings lived near the underground water oases of the planet in small groups. Their skin was covered with black scales and patches of short fur, and the shed their annualy. Each molting produced a new knob of hard skin on their tails, which eventually formed a kind of rattle. Tailrings are attracted to shiny objects, and are considered excellent thieves. However, they are also considered a good-luck charm by Socorran pirates, who strive to find one in the desert. Tailrings bond almost instantly to a being they identify with, forming a lifelong bond. The pirates welcome their company because, for an unexplained reason, tailrings love to eat mynocks, and they will attack any mynocks attached to their owner's ship.
