this was one phase of a sabacc hand in which two or more players were tied at the end of a hand, with hands that did not exceed the score of 23. Each of the remaining players was then dealt a single card. If the additional card caused the player's hand to exceed 23, he was out of the match. This continued until only one player was left to claim the pot.
