this was a horseshoe-shaped magnet wrapped with two layers of conductive wire, used to generate the magnetic fields required to send a subspace transmission. Often, the wire used was of a superconducting material that was exceptionally thin, requiring more then ten kilometers of wire to fully cover the U-shaped frame.
