a device which allows its living contents to be placed in suspended animation until revived. They are often used in penal colonies or detention areas (Stars' End was the first facility to make it work) to keep prisoners in stasis until they can be tried. They were also used by the Corporate Sector Authority to silence its enemies, as well as to preserve viable sources of labor. The technology used in the stasis booth existed about 100 years before the advent of the New Order, but was put to prison use at the recommendation of the Authority's Detention Task Force. Also called a stasis box, they found wide-spread use after the Battle of Endor when the New Republic began reaching out to reclaim planets which had suffered from chemical or biological damage at the hands of the Empire. Survivors were transported to medical facilities in stasis booths certified for full-spectrum biological security.
