this was the term used to describe any galactic scout or explorer who worked directly for the New Republic Scout Service. Unlike corporate scouts or independent scouts, the service scout reported directly to, and was paid by, the New Republic. They receive training from the New Republic military, and those scouts which prefer to remain soldiers are often given the chance to become a Scout Soldier.
