this Imperial commander was left on Lucazec to await the return of a Fallanassi who could read the hidden messages left behind by the elders. He was killed by Luke Skywalker when he tried to abduct Akanah. Note that Shield of Lies indicates that Paffen poisoned himself, rather than be captured by Skywalker on Lucazec.
