this form of gas was used by paranoid starship owners who wanted to protect their ships from being stolen. In the event of a break-in, these captains had installed anti-intrusion systems. One system could release a charge of null-gas into the life support system, effectively removing all oxygen from the environment and rendering the theives incapacitated or dead.
