Lume Rock
this unusual form of rock gives off light and heat, but is not hot enough to burn flesh. The B'omarr monks used to line walkways with them to convince younger monks that they had sufficient mind control to walk over a bed of hot coals. Although this practice was deceitful, it helped the monks sort out potential candidates and gave new monks a sense of accomplishment if they walked across them.
