Jump Gate
at specific coordinates common to hyperspace and realspace which marked a safe stopping-off point in space, the early astrogators placed huge beacons known as jump gates to mark its location. These were common very early in the development of hyperdrive starships, for they were home to huge spaceports which had equipment and supplies. As hyperspace travel became easier with the advent of the AI navcom units, these jump gates became simply spaceports, since the beacons were no longer needed. The ancient jump gates were very limited in their capacity to re-route a starship, with only enough memory to remember a small number of other locations. Thus, the network was criss-crossed with a network of routes which passed through these gates. .
