this form of targeting system was used during the last decades of the Old Republic. Starships equipped with this system could fire an ion-shielded tag at their target. The ion shielding served to drain the target's protective shields, while the tag lodged itself onto the hull and provided a guidance mechanism for volleys of nano-missiles.
