any particle cannon which uses a huge turbine to generate a large negative ion pulse. The pulse can be aimed as a concentrated mass at its target. The pulse doesn't physically destroy its target, but the ions contained in the pulse render computers and other delicate systems useless. Ion cannons can be built to almost any size and use, from small starfighter systems to huge, planetary defense weapons.
