Ion Beamer
a paddle-shaped medical instrument used by the Ssi-ruuvi to immobilize their prisoners. These devices were also called ion paddle beamers. These devices affected humans and most humanoids in the same way a DEMP gun affected droids: electromagnetic impulses within the nervous system of the target were disrupted, cutting off the target's control of their body. Like other Ssi-ruuvi technology, these weapons were powered by enteched life-energy, which provided a variable energy source. New Republic technicians who tried to attach standard power packs simply burned out the beamer. The beam which was generated could not be deflected by the blade of a lightsaber, although it did bend around the lightsaber's blade.
