Imperial Senate
ruling body of the Old Republic, it was a collection of senators from the Old Republic's major worlds, and decided many of the laws and beliefs maintained by the Republic. Some of the more notable senators including Garm Bel Iblis, Mon Mothma, and Bail Organa (founders of the Alliance to Restore the Republic); Leia Organa; and senator Palpatine. When Palpatine was approached by various factions who wanted to overthrow the Old Republic, he usurped their support and used it to further his own dream of establishing his New Order. When Palpatine felt that the Senate was becoming a burden to his plans, he dissolved it permanently. This took place just before the Battle of Yavin.
