Imperial City
site of the Imperial Palace on Coruscant, home of the Old Republic, the Empire, and the New Republic. This huge, sprawling metropolis had grown outward during the early years of the Old Republic (when it was known as Republic City), until it covered almost all of Coruscant's landmass. Then, the city grew upward during the height of the Old Republic, with some buildings standing over a kilometer in height. At this time, some builders began creating living space below the city, in the crust of the planet. When Palpatine overturned the Old Republic and named himself Emperor, he renamed the city to Imperial City.
