as a native of the Botor Enclave on the planet Kerensik, Kane knew only the cold, frozen expanse of winter until he attended an off-world Imperial university. There, he discovered a multitude of seasons, and the sensation of love. While at the university, he met Marfa Thorbin, and Alderaanian woman studying aquatic xenology. They fell in love, and Kane asked her to marry him. She agreed, and left for Alderaan to tell her parents. She was killed when Tarkin used the Death Star to destroy the planet, and Kane Griggs was changed forever. He left the university and returned to the Enclave, but his anger at the Empire continued to burn. He left his job following the Alliance's victory in the Battle of Endor, and served as a New Republic navigator on the Emancipator. He discovered new friends, a loving wife and child, but he forgot Marfa.
