a dangerous plant found on the moon Yavin 4, the grenade fungus grew in arcs or rings of plants which spread across the floor of the jungle. When touched with even a light brushing, the blue-colored fungus exploded outward. Its brittle skin burst with a loud bang, and spores were be expelled in every direction. Often, the explosion of a single grenade fungus set off other fungus around it, resulting in a widespread explosion of fungi. Although this often was destructive to any structure or organism in the immediate area, this was the grenade fungus' primary means of disseminating its spores. Xenobotonists believed that the heat created by the combustion of the fungus helped to "jump-start" the spores, making them viable. Careful laboratory investigation showed that unheated spores never grew into a plant.
