A lot of people saw the latest spy photo from the set of Episode I featuring Natalie Portman in costume. Many people have speculated about the inspiration for it. A lot of people have written us thking the costume looked awfully similar to the one worn by Erin Grey in the Buck Rodgers TV show. However, Artstud79 had a different idea:
Having just viewed the new spy photo of Natalie in costume, I noticed a startling similarity to this picture here...taken from The Art of Star Wars: A New Hope(p23). Just give Natalie a gun and holster and they're practically the same! Looks like Lucas is using some older costume concepts... Personally I think he really cant go wrong here, the artwork produced for the original trilogy is outstanding and I'd love to see some of Mr. McQuarrie's ideas make it into these new movies. Just wanted to share my thoughts with you!
What do you think?
UPDATE
Dean wrote in Tuesday (sorry we misplaced your email!) and scores this report:
I was looking at the behind-the-scenes photo you posted of Natalie Portman in her white costume from Episode 2 and something hit me. Remember Commander Wilma Deering from Buck Rogers in the 25th Century? Check out the attached photo for an interesting comparison.
I just saw your picture of Padme's new Costume, all white jumpsuit with boots. As soon as I saw it, I knew it looked familiar. I have the Action Figure!
It's the same costume Wilma Deering wore on the Gil Gerard Buck Rogers Series in the early episodes. The only thing that's missing is the belt.
