The latest Disney employee newsletter "Eyes and Ears" addresses some Star Wars issues of concern to fans:
Q: I read an article in a local newspaper recently that said Star Wars Weekends at the Disney-MGM Studios were being cancelled because of a strained relationship between Lucasfilm and The Walt Disney Company. Is this true?
A: That local newspaper article regarding Star Wars Weekends was inaccurate. In fact, we sent a copy of that article to our contacts at Lucasfilm, who quickly responded by writing a letter to that newspaper advising of the inaccurate reporting. In the letter, the presi-dent of Lucas Licensing described the relationship between Lucasfilm and Disney as ?excellent.? We?re planning a variety of Star Wars-themed enhancements to the Disney-MGM Studios guest experience for May 17-19 to celebrate the May 16 theatrical release of Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones, and we?ll continue to work creatively with Lucasfilm to explore future Star Wars-related guest offerings. ? BY STEVE LANGLOIS
The Disney-MGM Studios will host a variety of aliens, heroes and villains during a weekend celebration dedicated to the theatrical release of Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones.
In addition to experiencing the Star Tours thrill attraction and shopping at Tatooine Traders, guests will find more than 20 Stars Wars characters, such as Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Boba Fett and Darth Vader, roaming the theme park during the celebration.
Guests also will have the opportunity to get their faces painted like many Star Wars characters.
Additional characters also will join the Stars Wars car during the daily Disney Stars and Motor Cars Parade from May 17-19.
Star Wars fans and pin collectors will find new limited-edition Star Wars pins during the weekend.
?This will be a great opportunity for Stars Wars fans to meet and greet characters you don?t see every day and share in the excitement with the release of the film,? said Kris Zajkowski, Entertainment producer at the Disney-MGM Studios. ?We?re really excited to help celebrate the film?s release and support the theme park with the planned enhancements. There will be a lot of energy here that weekend.?
Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones will be released in theaters on May 16.
