Dan sends in a report from the Dubai charity screening that took place on Monday night:
Just wanted to drop you guys a note to tell you the charity screening on Monday night in Dubai was a big success.
Dubai is the commerce and media captial of the United Arab Emirates, just north of Saudi. There was a wonderful charity screening of AOTC last night (2PM Monday EST) at a large, very modern Grand Cineplex. There was a great reception in honor of the film and the charity receiving the funding: The Dubai Center for Children with Special Needs. There were between 250 and 300 people there, a lot of great fans, some even in costume.
The film was very well-received. I personally thought it was much better than TPM and the effects were eye-poppingly good. Some highlights for me were (highlight to read) the Kaminoans (best close-up CGI ever?), the droid factory and the moment when Watto realizes who he's talking to. Absolute magic.
And that's what it's all about, isn't it? It's not Citizen Kane, and no one needs it to be. It's a b-movie sci-fi epic, and that's what we all want it to be.
