Why doesn't R2 use his rockets in the Classic Trilogy? Schatenjager found a clue:
In issue 55 of the Holonet News there is a business story about IA limiting the warranties of all R2, R3, and R4 droids' rocket boosters to twenty years. I think this may go part way towards explaining why we never see R2 fly in the OT. His warranty expired!
