Mike alerts us to an article in Canada's National Post. The author tries to explains why he thinks the prequels aren't as much fun as the originals. Here's an excerpt:
What went wrong with Star Wars? More specifically, how is it that George Lucas could deliver three of the most rousing, populist hits of all time, then return 20 years later with a couple of prequels that are accused of being -- of all things -- boring?
Star Wars: Episode II -- Attack of the Clones has officially docked in theatres, and early reaction seems split: The film is either a solid step toward righting the franchise after the turgid, soporific Phantom Menace, or it's simply more of the same.
No one, however, has dared contend that the film delivers anything close to the fabled thrills of the previous three Star Wars chapters. It's as though we've abandoned all hope that these new installments might actually be good -- now we just pray they won't stink. Even diehard fans seem content to count their blessings and be thankful for less face-time with Jar Jar Binks.
So, how did this series lose its zip?
