Natalie Portman in The Big Issue

Posted By Britany on May 14, 2002

Roland tells us about a Natalie Portman interview in a UK magazine:

I just bought this week's Big Issue (a very cool magazine run by a charity & sold by homeless people here in the UK), and it has a small article on Natalie Portman. The article mostly describes her role in AOTC and her past career and doesn't tell us anything new, but it's an interesting read all the same.

Here's an excerpt from the article:

Move over Prince William. Natalie Portman is without doubt the coolest student on the planet. The 20-year-old spends holidays from her psychology degree at Harvard University in a Galaxy far, far away, getting it on with Darth Vader. Alright, she has to put with being a pin-up to the galaxy's geeks and knowing her kid will grow up to look like Mark Hamill, but the ?3.5million pay packet per film probably helps to soften the blow.

She started her Hollywwood career at 13, playing a junior assasin in Leon, and had played alongside Al Pachino and Jack Nicholson before the end of her teens. As their daughters, naturally. Neither she nor her parents have any truck with age-gap romantic roles. Of her decision not to appear in 1997's Lolita, she says wryly, "It was widely reported that my parents were over-protective prudes. They're not. They just didn't want to see their 14-year-old daughter having sex with Jeremy Irons."

You can read the full article in this week's Big Issue which is onsale everywhere. Thanks for the alert.
