From Maurice Tanguy in France we get this update on Episode II at the box office there:

"L'Attaque des Clones" (Star Wars Episode II) attracted 2,002,398 viewers in 5 days from Friday 17 to Tuesday 21 with 800 screens. (The second movie on the France box office "Hollywood Ending" the last Woody Allen made 260 804 entries!)

[In comparison, "La Menace Fant?me" (TPM) attracted 1,965,289 viewers in 5 days from Wednesday 13th of October to Sunday 17 with 793 screens.]

(Note that TPM opened in France Tuesday the 12th of October (1999) at midnight where as AOTC opened the 16th of May at 8PM in selected of cities in France).
