If you've received tickets for a midnight showing of Episode II, be mindful that some of them are dated for the day before. The Phantom Editor himself raises the red flag:
There's a little confusion over the tickets for the AMC theaters showing Attack of the Clones at 12:01 am Wednesday in Burbank (on the online moviefone.com and movietickets.com outlets also) The tickets are printed as 12:01 am Wednesday May 15th and should read, 12:01 Thursday May 16th. I called their customer care line and the ...ahem... brilliant customer care representative told me the wrong date as well. I spoke in person with the management to help clear the confusion today. Bottomline is, show up to see the first showing of Attack of the Clones on Wednesday night before midnight and they will show it one minute after midnight which is then officially Thursday 12:01am May 16th.
Hope this aided in the confusion.
Some of the TFN staff checked their tickets: the ones Chris has in Greensboro, North Carolina are for Wednesday May 15th also. More likely as not, misprints have happened in other places... but they'll still be good for the midnight showing on the 16th.
So a friendly reminder: PLEASE do not show up at your neighborhood theater tomorrow night (unless you want to catch "Spider-Man") anticipating Episode II. You've still got 24 hours to go... patience!
UPDATE: Carl Cunningham of StarWarsFan.Org offers up a clear explanation...
I just saw this story and thought I would chime in...
These tickets are really NOT misprints. Rather, that's how most theaters list and print their tickets. Yes, technically the first showings are at 12:01AM THURSDAY May 16th, but that's not how the cinemas do their schedules & calendars. They list & print the after midnight shows on the same day, instead of the next day. For instance, view the following set of AOTC showtimes for this Friday:
Notice that there is a 12:45am (midnight) show. This ticket would print out Friday May 17th at 12:45am when it is technically Saturday the 18th at 12:45am. Basically, when a theater is open for business in the morning all shows until the theater closed go under that day's busines, whether it's before midnight... or after. It also helps in listing the daily showtimes in the papers and such. This is how the theaters have been doing it for years. I know at least AMC has.
Yes, I know it's confusing. And it's always good to check. But these reported ticket misprints actually are correct ... from a certain point of view (the theater's).
If you're ticket reads "Wednesday May 15 12:01am (or other midnight show) know that this DOES mean Wednesday night/Thursday morning.
