Nash Edgerton, stunt-double for Ewan McGregor and brother to Joel Edgerton (the new/young Owen Lars) spent an hour at Celebration II on Saturday afternoon chatting about his career as a stuntman and his work on Attack Of The Clones. Prior to his talk, Edgerton showed a clip video of his work during the past ten years, which included stunts in "Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers", "Dark City", "The Matrix" and of course, Episode II. Edgerton came to the prequels via Nick Gillard and Ewan McGregor, who he worked with on "Moulin Rouge". He spent ten weeks working on Episode II, "a brief time," he noted, as his work on the new Matrix sequels has kept him busy for well over a year. To be Kenobi during action sequences, Edgerton spent 2 1/2 hours daily being fitted with a wig and beard: "and I couldn't smile. Everyone on the set kept asking why I was so sad," he said, explaining that the beard appliance would peel off if he moved his jaw very much.
Edgerton has been doing stuntwork for over 10 years, since he was 18. "My mother cried for three months after she found out what I was doing," he told us. He's been relatively lucky so far as injuries go: only being burned twice "and a scar that ran from my neck to my ankle!" When asked about working on Episode III, he said he would love to. In the meantime, his next project is "Danny Deckchair", based on the real-life story of a man who flew in a lawnchair tied to weather balloons. Is he ever scared when he does a stunt? "Oh yeah! You play a lot safer when you're scared!"
