On Sunday, May 12, Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston (BGCB) held its Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones Charity Premiere. BGCB hosted over 500 children, parents, corporate sponsors and fans at the event, which raised funds for the Clubs' programs serving 8,000 underprivileged children in Boston and Chelsea. Jill Goldweitz, BGCB's director of events, told us she felt the New England Garrison (NEG) was the star of the event. Corporate sponsors NSTAR, The Stride Rite Corporation and Papa Ginos provided tickets for 200 children and their families to be present at this event free of charge.
I spoke with Jill Goldweitz of BGCB the day after the Premiere and she couldn't thank us enough. She went on to say how truly giving she found everyone in the group to be. The NEG presented the Club with over 50 toys to pass out to the children in their clubhouses. Also given to them were framed photographs of the 501st Legion at Celebration II. A strong and growing friendship between BGCB and the NEG was formed as a result of this collaboration. Jill was thrilled with the professionalism conveyed by the NEG to the event staff and attendees. The NEG's ability to supplement the event staff with characters from Star Wars was a real thrill to the fans in attendance.
After the Premiere, our Imperial troops gathered at the party held at the Ritz-Carlton's "Back Lot" room. Several photo opportunities were available along with a silent auction. Everyone in attendance got a chance to look at some truly unique work the children had done. A highlight of the party was the technology displays put on by BGCB Club members, who showcased their work from a recent "Cyber Summit" including robotics and animation - many with a Star Wars theme.
Please join me in thanking all these wonderful people, and of course their moms, for donating their time on Mother's Day. They have exhibited the true nature of the Force, giving of oneself.
