The Sacramento Bee posted an interesting article on Friday looking at the buzz between the two biggest films this month. Here's an excerpt:
"Spider-Man" swings into movie theaters today. On screen, the hero will be fighting bad guys, especially the evil Green Goblin. But all that action is just a skirmish in the larger battle of the blockbusters between "Spider-Man," which opens today, and "Star Wars: Episode II -- Attack of the Clones," which opens May 16.
There is, of course, the war to win the box office. But that's nothing compared with the hand-to-wallet combat over product marketing and the pop-culture crown. Which toys and cereals and kiddie meals will we be buying? Which images will be referenced over and over?
Only time will tell, but we'll be bold and set up an initial bout between action figures that represent the two competing movie franchises: "Spider-Man's" web-swinger, Peter Parker, and the "Star Wars'" heroine, Padm? Amidala.
