Australian Fan Reactions to AOTC - Pt 2 of 3
Posted By Britany on May 15, 2002
Here's the second part of our Australians fan reactions to AOTC. Spoilers are whited out. Oza Fett tells us: Went to the midnight session in Melbourne with the Star Wars group here. I was a little disappointed with the number of people who didnt dress up. Overall though a top evening and killer movie. I didn't get to take any pictures at the movie as I was too busy being photographed by other people. Here is a shot of me taken on the weekend in a dress rehersal. Ashley tells us: Just got back from the 12:01 screening of episode 2 at Crown Casino, Melbourne, Victoria. There were a few people dressed as Jedi with the robes etc but nobody struck out and did anything different. I went as Vader, which I soon regreted when my helmet started fogging up :). Anyway the cinema had two official guys there, one dressed as Vader the other as a Trooper and before the screening they gave out various prizes. I was pleased with the movie overall but there were some parts that seemed "off" and out of place. Moht tells us: I just got back from the 12:01 screening at Melbourne's Crown Casino. The film (as you already know know) was awesome however, not every seat in the house was full. In our row, at least there were two empty seats. Before the feature a bloke from the cinema tried to get everyone pumped up buy asking (not very) trivia questions for star wars prizes but the event turned into a case of whoever could rush up to the front first. By the end everyone was just heckling him for the movie to start. During the picture there was cheering at all the bits you would expect... I won't say any more. Glenn tells us: Here at Castle Hill, NSW one guy dressed up as a Stormtrooper - his costume consisted of a breakfast cereal box painted white with elastic held to his head and a sign hung around their neck that said "Stormtrooper". His friend had a similar costume for Darth Vader - a cereal box painted black with a black cape with a sign hung around his neck that said "Darth Vader'. Both costumes looked very second rate (that was obviously the intent) and they received a couple of chuckles and giggles as they walked past the lineup. Another guy I spotted dressed up in drag as Queen Amidala. David tells us: Hey was just at the midnight screening of AOTC in Melbourne, Australia and let me just say IT ROCKED!! Dialogue was beyond corny at times and some other bits and pieces pissed me off but yes, overall it is awesome !! Steven tells us: I live in the US, but my buddy Scott lives in Australia. It's just after 3:00am his time, and a few moments ago he e-mailed me this link from a news story about their preview screening. My friend is the fantastic looking Boba Fett. Check it out here. Peter tells us: I just got back from the midnight screening, it was absolutely awesome!!! At the cinema there were people dressed as storm troopers and emperor guards +local TV, the cinema manager said before the screening that we were amongst the first in the world to see it, only New Zealand saw it before us, which was pretty cool. All I can say about the film is (highlight to read) look out for YODA who is awesome in the film!!! I think this one is up there with the original pics for sure. Owen tells us: OMG it was amazing, way better than TPM and a mighty good romp with some fairly funny parts especially (highlight to read) C3-PO and R2's antics in the droid construction facility, and cgi yoda was amazing, never new the little green man good cut sick like that!!!! Amazing effects (duh its ILM) but worth a mention, inconsistency with the books was a little strange (highlight to read) (the death star plans). but I suppose what george says goes. U guys in america have alot to look forward to! i enjoyed the movie heaps i gotta go to bed now (highlight to read) CGI yoda rocks!!!!!!!!!! Joseph tells us: It is 3.37am in the morning and I have just arrived at home from watching the midnight screening of Star Wars AOTC and in my mind this is the most stunning visual movie that I have ever seen. The love scenes were very moving and overall the movie gave me a buzz . The visuals are overwhelming and requires at least two viewings, Anakin and Obi Wan are very impressive, overall I love it and will watch it then another two or three times (probably 10 times). In my mind, I feel that "The Empire Strikes Back" is still the most emotional movie.
