Hey Star Wars CCGers!
Star Wars CCG veteran player and tournament organizer, Josh "Red 84" Radke, has taken over operation of the online league,
Star Wars CCG WorldWide Ladder. If you are not familiar with this website, it is a very cool league for players who use any one of the popular freeware gaming programs (e.g.
Holotable,
CCGWorkshop) to play the Star Wars CCG online. If you haven't tried playing the CCG online with any of these programs it does take a little getting used to, but the opportunities to play
anyone in the world from your computer are very cool.
Since the online programs are free, they are also a great way for new players to get into the game without having to track down the physical cards themselves. Obviously there is nothing like playing the game in-person, but with the game out-of-print and some players being isolated from the more heavily populated SWCCG communities in the world, the online programs are very important to the continued survival of this game.
Josh has already announced some innovative competitions through 2008 including the Star Wars CCG Galactic Cup (with a format similar to the World Cup only with Star Wars regions), the WWL championship (with a season format similar to baseball), and scenario and special format tournaments complete with prize support (e.g. The Battle of Hoth scenario, Classic-only format)! We will have more information on all these events in the upcoming weeks and months.
Josh is especially focused on helping players outside North America to get these programs and learn the Star Wars CCG. Even though the programs and cards are currently only available in the English language, this will hopefully not be a barrier to everyone. With strong player bases already established in countries such as England, Germany, Denmark, Belgium, Poland, and Australia there is a great foundation to build on. But no matter what country you are from, the Star Wars CCG online league wants to reach out to all Star Wars fans and gamers across the globe. If you are involved in FanForce at all, you are in an excellent position to help out!
Anyone who is interested in participating in this online league, even if they have never played Decipher's Star Wars CCG before, can go to TFN's CCG Forum where they can ask questions and get more information from Josh himself.
