Greetings program and welcome to the game grid :-) It's my pleasure to bring you TRON RECOGNIZER, a mod for the freeware game "Star Wars: Battle of Yavin" by Bruno R. Marcos. TRON is one of my all-time favourite movies and what better way to pay tribute to a movie about videogames than to create a game based on the movie? Yes, at last the circle is complete! In case you have never seen the classic 80s film, TRON is a fantasy movie set in the near-future (ahem, the late 90s! Let me say again: the movie was made in the early eighties) when an intelligent computer program, the MASTER CONTROL PROGRAM or MCP, begins to spread itself to every computer mainframe on the planet in a plot to take control of mankind. The only hope against a future of digital tyranny? TRON - another intelligent program created to take down the MCP and "derezz" him for good. He is helped along on his mission by Flynn, a human being (or "user") who has been digitized into the videogame world that exists inside the mainframe at ENCOM, and Yori, TRON's love interest. TRON RECOGNIZER loosely follows the plot of the movie, with the gamer playing TRON and leading a squadron of Blue Recognizers into the MCP's domain. Along the way, you'll encounter the same enemies from the film - namely, the evil Red Recognizers, Sark's carrier, scores of battle tanks and those pesky grid bugs. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- INSTALL INSTRUCTIONS: For information about the original game, Star Wars: Battle of Yavin 1.1 go to Bruno R Marcos' site: http://www.bruneras.com/ Download Battle of Yavin from: http://www.theforce.net/videogames/apps/boyavin/ Install the game on your machine, play it, make sure there are no problems. Now run the TronRecognizer_setup.exe and set it to install the files to the same folder where you installed Battle of Yavin. You can pick from three difficulty levels: Easy, Medium, and Hard. NOTE: before you play the game, read the Tron Game Guide! It contains important information on how to complete each level and a small bug to watch out for. You can find the guide in the folder where the Battle of Yavin program is located. Look for the file "TronRecognizer_GameGuide.htm" and double-click on it to launch your Internet browser. If you have any questions, consult the Tron FAQ which may be able to help you out. Otherwise, feel free to e-mail me. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CREDITS: Battle of Yavin game engine - Bruno R. Marcos TRON 3D models and graphics - Napseeker (Tom Yee) Music - Wendy Carlos Please note: if you want to use any of my TRON models and graphics in your own freeware game, please contact me first. I will usually grant permission provided that the proper credits and a link to my website are included in your documentation. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Special thanks to Steven Lisberger for making such an entertaining and thoughtful film, and to Wendy Carlos for one of the coolest soundtracks ever (organ music never sounded so good). I know my old TRON vinyl record got pretty scratchy after being played for the 1000th time (kids, a vinyl record is something that kinda looks like an audio CD, but it's black you see, not silvery and shiny. And old folks used to listen to music on them...) Enjoy the game everyone, Napseeker (napseeker@hotmail.com)
