Darth Vader & Son = The Perfect Father's Day Gift Posted By Mike on June 15, 2012
Back in April we first posted about the release of Jeffrey Brown's new book, Darth Vader & Son. Even back then, we noted how fitting the book would be for Father's Day. With the annual day for dads almost upon us, we present a mini-review of the family book offering.
How deep can I really go with this? The book is simply adorable from beginning to end as it depicts Darth Vader if he were to have raised Luke himself. The artwork has just the right level of detail and presents Vader in a much less imposing manner than we're used to seeing from our favorite Dark Lord of the Sith. As a father he's caring, frustrated, angry, proud and all around loving. Jeffrey Brown takes a number of familiar father/son moments, sprinkles in a little Star Wars, and thus those situations become fresh and fun. There's nothing not to like and virtually every page makes you smile.
I've had the book for a couple months now and it has quickly become a favorite bedtime story for both my 6 and 3 year old boys. Some of the jokes crack them up. Others go right over their heads and make me chuckle. That's where the cute artwork comes in. If they don't get the joke, they still enjoy the silly pictures that accompany them. The best part is that they tend to bring the book to me way more than I ever have to suggest it. In my opinion, that's the biggest indication that the Jeffrey Brown hit a home run in terms of both the writing and the artwork. (Jeffery did both, by the way.)
This is a great Father's Day gift, not because it's something a dad is dying to read, but because it provides a great way to create a little GFFA family time.
