Luke Meets Data
Posted By Mike on April 28, 2008
Our friends in the Tenuto family sent over the following news:
"Star Wars and Star Trek fans unite. Brent Spiner, who played Data on Star Trek: The Next Generation has a new album of standards. Spiner was a Broadway actor and singer before playing Data. The album features a great amount of voice work by Mark Hamill and he is featured on the videos about the making of the album on Spiner's website (www.therealbrentspiner.com). There is a funny moment when talking about the budget, they say they could ask Mark Hamill to play all the voices instead of getting different actors. We have the album, and Mark is great as usual with his characters."
Thanks to the Tenutos for the heads up!
UPDATED: Going along with the story above, the Tenutos have sent over some more tidbits of Star Wars and Star Trek connections. See below:
"On April 9, 2008, four famous robots, including Data from Star Trek The Next Generation, were inducted into the Carnegie Mellon's Robot Hall of Fame. The host was Anthony Daniels whose C3PO was inducted in 2004. Mark Hamill was also at the CM event. Accepting the award for Data was Zachary Quinto who plays Spock in the 2009 Star Trek film. Here is a great picture of the two Star Wars stars with Quinto."
More here at robothalloffame.org.
"Trek Nation, a new documentary by Eugene Roddenberry, Jr., features an interview with George Lucas about his father's show Star Trek. You can hear Lucas speaking about Star Trek in the trailer for the documentary, and how Roddenberry Jr.'s quest to appreciate his father's legacy is one that Lucas hopes his own son goes on someday. Watch the preview of the documentary at http://www.treknationdoc.com/
Our friend Dan Madsen, former publisher of the Star Wars Insider and Fan Club President, sent us this photo he took at the first and only meeting of Lucas and Gene Roddenberry at the Star Wars 10th Anniversary Convention.

This picture is of George Lucas having dinner with JJ Abrams who is the director of the 2009 Star Trek film. It was revealed this week by Trekmovie.com that Steven Spielberg visited the Star Trek sets and helped with a scene. Perhaps Spock and Kirk will battle on Mustafar? In a Senate building? Probably not."
Thanks again to the Tenuto clan for the follow up!
UPDATE #2: Ryan P. sent over a link to a review of Brett Spiner's Dreamland CD with a CD giveaway as well. It looks as though the review was done by our friend John Tenuto (from the posts above). Click here.
Thanks Ryan!
