Pernilla August - Anakin's Mother. In the above pics, Pernilla is shown with co-stars from her various films.
12/9/97 - Janne Helander (and some of our other Swedish friends) sent us reports of an interview on TV with Pernilla August. Janne wrote us a full transcript of the broadcast. While we believe it to be accurate, we're listing it in the purple font just to be consistent (since we didn't see it with our own eyes).:
(The following is a translated transcript of part of an interview with Pernilla August, which aired December 6th on the Swedish talk show "Let's Go". The name of the host is Erik Haag, and actress Britt Ekland is also present.)
EH: "Pernilla, I'd just like to ask you this, 'cause you've just done this
exciting part. That Star Wars ... the new Star Wars movie, in which you play Darth Vader's
mom. It must have been great fun to be part of an American luxury production like that.
Was it like one would expect? Did you feel like Sandra Bullock, or someone like
that?"
BE: (Laughs.)
PA: (Laughs.) "No ... no ... like Sandra Bullock? No, but it was ... no, but ... Yes,
it was [durn - ed.] ... it was great fun, great fun, great fun! Now, afterwards, it feels
like as if it was a dream!"
EH: "But was it ... I mean, in comparison with Sweden?"
PA: "No, I ... I was so surprised, actually, that it was so much the same, oddly
enough. That once you're there with the camera, it's like ... It's the same thing, it's
the same job, even if there were much, much more people around you. But it was extremely
smooth and easy, you know, so you didn't feel it. I thought it was good fun ...
laid-back."
BE: "I'd very much like to know what you were wearing? Did you have ..?"
(Gesticulates, apparently imitating Leia's "doughnut" hair-do.)
PA: "I don't think I'm allowed to say that!"
BE: "Oh, I see."
EH: "No, but the thing is that Pernilla isn't allowed to say anything."
PA: "I've signed papers, I'm not allowed to say one word! I'm a completely hopeless
interview subject!" (Laughs.)
EH: "But one would at least assume ..." (Is interrupted by BE.)
BE: "Let's just say, was it black and shiny?"
PA: (Laughs.) "Assume!?" (Mumbles and laughs.)
BE: "Oh."
EH: "In any case, one could at least say this much, and now I'm just guessing, that
... that Darth Vader's childhood couldn't have been all that sunny."
PA: (Looks kind of grave all of a sudden.) "Oh, God! I wouldn't ... What? I wouldn't
know ..."
EH: "No, but I mean, things couldn't have been altogether uncomplicated when he was
little, since he becomes so evil later when he grows up."
PA: "Yes, well, but that's later on ..."
EH: "Oh, I see, it's not the one you're in, but that might happen a bit ... I see
..."
BE: "But was he at all born, or like ..?"
EH: "No, but he was completely ordinary at first."
PA: (Laughs, pointing at EH and BE.) "You can talk ... 'cause I don't dare to
speak!"
(The interview ends as EH presents another segment.)
Well, that's it. While it didn't tells us much, it was interesting to get August's view of how filming went.
9/17/97 - Word is that no one has any idea how to pronounce Shmi's name. Everyone has just been calling her Skywalker. Ha! That make's all of us but George, then!

The above picture shows Pernilla August at the Stockholm opening of Star Wars Special Edition! It was sent by Annika Blomm? of Sweden. Thanks, Annika!
6/13/87 - The following comes from Harry Knowle's Ain't It Cool News. It comes from the Swedish magazine EXPRESSEN:
"Pernilla August has been cast as Mama Skywalker to the adorable Jake Lloyd aka Anakin Skywalker aka Darth Vader. The filming for her will begin in July at Leavesden Studios which is Northwest of London. At first Pernilla wouldn't confirm this to EXPRESSEN, but then she placed a call to good ol George Lucas' company and then she admitted it was true. "Everything around the shooting is very secretive and there for I must check with what I can say. But you are right about me, I will be in the next Star wars film," says Pernilla August. She went on to say, "Being involved in this is the biggest thing I've ever been involved in, and it's damn funny too. I even like The Star wars films alot." Apparently Ms. August went to London back in the winter time to do some "try-shooting". "Working with Star Wars is of course much more different from Swedish film. Then I know how to "be", now I'm only nervous," Pernilla said. The shooting for Balance of the Force should be completed by September, though Lucas has said that due to his shooting style, the actors would need to be called back to do some additional shooting at some point after that."
