Cincinnati Pops Orchestra Presents: "Music Of John Williams"

Posted By Dustin on July 11, 2007

This just in from The Ohio Star Wars Collectors Club:

"We want to let TheForce.net readers know (many of which reside in Ohio BTW) that the Cincinnati Pops, under the direction of Maestro Erich Kunzel is doing a concert on Saturday, July 14th at Riverbend called "The Music of John Williams" which will include music from ALL of Williams film scores. BUT - the second half of the show is ENTIRELY Star Wars music!

Riverbend is a wonderful outdoor amphitheater along the Ohio River which seats over 20,000 people between the covered seating and the lawn seating on the hill behind it. For a concert like this, there really isn't a bad seat! OSWCC and the 501st worked with the Cinci Pops in 2005 to do 2 "The Music of Star Wars" concerts at Riverbend and 2 at Blossom Music Festival near Cleveland - both of which were some of most fun and fulfilling events I've ever done (I also trooped those concerts with the 501st.) :) And the music is just INCREDIBLE to hear live.

One of the perks of the Cincinnati version of the show was that they had the Cincinnati May Festival Chorus perform "Duel of the Fates" with the orchestra - which is just one of the most incredible, spine-tingling performances when you hear it all live. They did it without the chorus at the Blossom event and it just wasn't the same. My understanding from a friend who's in the May Chorus is that they will be repeating this performance for this concert (we've yet to get the final set list, but she says they've been practicing it!) So I wouldn't miss it!

Lawn tickets are great for an event like this during the summer. Many people bring a blanket or chairs and a picnic basket. You can find all the info on what?s allowed and what?s not here: http://www.riverbend.org/rules.shtml

Thanks to the Cinci Pops, they are providing a special code so TFN readers can get tickets at 25% the regular price. (see info below for specifics) - so please pass this onto your listeners if you'd like. And OSWCC would love to have you guys down if you are free that weekend. If you can make it, please let me know and I'm sure we can arrange a special after-concert meetup and perhaps nickel tour for you of Cincinnati and the infamous Kenner Street where our hobby started the next day.

Thanks again for your support of Star Wars collectors everywhere!
