2011 has not been a great year for the distribution of Hasbro's Star Wars line...months have gone by without any new product shipping to stores, as the popular line from that galaxy far, far away has taken a back seat to other toy lines based on Avengers and Transformers that have big-time presence on the silver screen.
But all of that appears to be over, as many readers are reporting finding new product at their local stores...although "new" really depends on your definition in many cases.
First up, this years "BMF" vehicle...the somewhat small Republic Attack Shuttle from The Clone Wars line. This too-cool vehicle that was briefly seen onscreen is a pretty robust toy with a lot of play value....not only do you get a nice mid-sized ship to store your various clone troopers, but the body open up to create a playset of sorts...as well as a nice mini-vehicle and clone figure.
In other vehicle news, the new batch of Class 1 Fleet Vehicles (otherwise affectionately known as "mini-rigs") has started to hit. This first wave of 2011 includes the following sets:
The second wave that includes the Y-Wing Scout Bomber has also been found, and the Boba Fett and Obi-Wan sets seen at Toy Fair is said to be coming later this year.
In addition, the 2 Toys "R" Us exclusive sets are finally hitting: - Separatist Speeder & Geonosian Warrior - Rebel Transport Spdeeder & Rebel Ground Crew
Another Toys"R"Us exclusive hitting now is the Stealth Ops Clone Trooper (A.K.A. "Commander Blackout"), which is said to be ringing up at the regular action figure price, but word has it this figure will be part of a free-with-purchase offer later this year.
The Battle Packs line has undergone a change, dropping the figure count to a mere 3 figures, although the price appears to be the same. These sets are made up of repackaged figures, with a handful of repaints...so technically you get a "new" figure included...plus the typical battle cards and battle stands. - Hunt for Grievous - Geonosis Assault - Defend Kamino - Stop the Zillo Beast
Over in The Vintage Collection, the single-carded figures still remain elusive...the demand is there, but the product is frustratingly hard to find. For carded completists, life has become a nightmare to keep up with all the various changes that have been made to the backs of the cardbacks, as most of the figures now have updated graphics on them...and at the higher pricepoint, this is especially frustrating.
A pair of new exclusive vehicles have finally been found...the Y-Wing Fighter (Toys"R"Us exclusive) and the B-Wing Fighter (K-Mart exclusive) are hitting now, sporting the classic Kenner-inspired packaging design, recreated with modern figures (showing that there are some much-needed upgrades to several of these figures!). Both vehicles have been modified from previous releases, either with a new deco or a tweaked cockpit.
The Target-exclusive 3-Packs are now getting a third wave, once again made up of repacks of previously-released figures...some of which are actually still available in the Saga Legends line. A few figures have a deco change to them, but for the most part, these are repackaged multipacks. The latest sets include: - Android Set - Imperial Set - Imperial Forces
Speaking of repackaged multipacks, the Blu-Ray Commemorative Edition 4-Packs are out now...a little earlier than the actual Blu-Ray Sets. There are 6 sets in all, each packed with 4 repackaged figures. The is one "new" figure in this set...the Battle Droid, which is technically a repaint, and we know that an improved version is coming next year....so this might be the only chance to grab this figure. (Probably not, but for now it is...)
Other toy lines that are out now are the new Transformers Crossovers, which includes the new smaller line, the new Jedi Force line, and the new line of FX lightsabers.
Thanks to everyone who wrote in with various reports and photos over the past few weeks, with all the reports and photos!
