CCG Flashback: Star Destroyer and Chewbacca Posted By Josh on February 16, 2004
The Imperial-class Star Destroyer, or "ImpStar", is one of the Empire's most recognized symbols. In the Star Wars CCG, it also was a harbinger of doom for any Rebel player not prepared for it. The above card was the generic, non-rare representative of the Empire's might. Although not neccessarily as powerful as some of the named ImpStars, this card is still hard to acquire. In Virtual Set #2, the PC decided to correct one of the starship card's drawbacks, making it better (in some ways) than several of its named counterparts:
May add 6 pilots and 4 TIEs. Deploys -3 to same location as a unique Star Destroyer. Permanent pilot aboard provides ability of 1. May draw one battle destiny if not able to otehrwise.
Still the Chewbacca of choice among many decks, this version of the Wookie (found in the A New Hope expansion) gives the Light Side player lots of power for very little cost.. but that's it. So for Virtual Set #3, the PC felt that this version of everyone's favorite furball needed a little something more true to Chewbacca's nature and legend:
Adds 2 to power of anything he pilots. Once per turn, may use 1 Force to take into hand any card with 'Wookie' or 'Chewie' in its gametext.
The Star Wars CCG lives on through the efforts of the Star Wars CCG Player's Committee. Please visit their official site or e-mail Josh "Red 84" Radke to learn how to play or more about Virtual Cards and what the PC is all about.
