Delay For The Force Unleashed
Posted By Mike on March 13, 2008
The phrase "release date" is quickly losing its certainty these days for Star Wars related projects. (We're still pulling for you Fanboys) According to Sue Rostoni over at the Starwars.com forums, it looks like The Force Unleashed may be pushed back to June. See below for the quote:
"edit: whoawhoawhoa... and The Force Unleashed got pushed back until June?!? say it ain't so!
(Sue Rostoni) Signs point to yes."
Click here to see for yourself.
Big thanks to Avinoam for the heads up!
UPDATE: Our friend Tia reports that Amazon.com is displaying the game as coming out on August 26th. Yikes! They do list the novelization as hitting shelves on March 18th, though. So, we have that going for us.
Thanks Tia!
UPDATE#2: Scratch that above for the novel. Del Ray is reporting a new date of June 24th.
Thanks Jay!
UPDATE #4: OK, lets face it. We all pretty much know of the delay of The Force Unleashed at this point. Project lead, Hayden Blackmen recently spoke about the delay at a GDC lecture. Those of you into gaming, and next generation platforms in particular, might be aware that the PS3 is supposed to be the most difficult system for developers to work with. It seems that the developers of TFU were not immune to the problems. See below for an excerpt from the source article at ps3fanboy.com:
"All future multiplatform projects will prioritize development on the PS3 before being ported over to the 360. This is a direct result of problems and delays during the development of The Force Unleashed caused by trying to port the 360 version to the PS3. The game is now, thankfully, on track, despite these delays."
Thanks "Darth Ludicrous".
UPDATE #4: The saga continues...Numerous sites are reporting that The Force Unleashed has now been pushed back until August 2008. What's interesting is that they all mention that the push back is from April whereas Sue Rostoni above had pretty much noted a June release date. We checked in with LucasArts and asked it the reports of another delay were true. Their response was that the release date hasn't changed. "It's still summer." Well, August could shape up to be a pretty big month if the new reports are true. See the source links below. It should also be noted that the rumors include a September release for our European friends. More as we hear it.

Thanks to Guillaume and Brett for the heads up.
